 United Way of Eddy County implements an innovative, competitive, inclusive, flexible and results focused, distribution process to help the most vulnerable people in our community.  100% of all grants issued are program based (not organization) and are awarded throught our annual Community Impact Grant or Emerging Community Impact Grant.

Funding FAQ

EMERGING COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT  - South Eddy County

United Way of Eddy County will provide a mechanism for funding outside its existing Community Impact grant making in order to remain responsive to agency and community needs during the year.  

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Operate or provide services within Eddy County.  Different funding amounts are available in South Eddy and North Eddy. 

• Operate as a 501 (c)3 non-profit charitable health or health service organization, or organization that facilitates educational programs or as a governmental or quasi-governmental unit

• Operate under written Articles of Incorporation and By-laws or other written documents or statutes that define the applicant’s purposes, membership, management and operation.

• Operate on a non-discriminatory basis in employment, recruitment of volunteers and delivery of services.

• Demonstrate effective program performance and financial responsibility and accountability.

• Provide services that align with United Way’s identified needs in Education, Health and Income Support. 

OPERATING REQUIREMENTS:

• Funds shall be used solely for the granted purpose.

• Grant funds not expended as approved in the grant application by United Way and within the time frame allowed shall be returned to United Way.

• No grant will be given for any purpose that would jeopardize the tax-exempt status of United Way or the applicant organization.

• Grant recipients shall acknowledge United Way of Eddy County in all promotional materials, activities and programs funded with United Way monies.

• Grant recipients will be asked to sign a Memorandum of Agreement. 

• Grant recipients shall submit an outcome report within 30 days of completing approved project.  They shall also submit a financial report and documentation illustrating financial accountability. 

Other Important Information:

LIMITATIONS: 

Emerging Community Impact Grants do not fund: 

• Annual Fund Drives 

• Operating Deficits or after-the-fact Support 

• Direct or Grass-roots Lobbying 

• Religious Purposes 

• Hospitals, Medical Research or Academic Research. 

Supporting documentation of the emergency must accompany the request.  Other exceptions may be made in cases when the organization requesting funding serves as the Fiscal Agent for another organization. Due to limited funding, partial grants may be awarded.  The Board of Directors decision is final and there are no appeals. 

OUTCOMES MEASUREMENT:

You will use the Logic model to illustrate the Inputs, Activities, Outputs, Outcome and Impact of your program.  Outcome and Impact must be specific and directly address the program needs. Local data MUST be included.  

Providers must be able to clearly define how they are going to measure the short-term and long-term outcomes with local information.

BUDGET:

No Budget is required to be submitted for Programs requesting $500 - $1000 of funding.  Detailed Program Budget is required for all requests totaling $1001 to $10,000.  All budgeted items must be specific to services provided by project/program.  All equipment requested should be justified by showing the need for equipment and full integration with the planned activities.  Applicants must thoroughly explain all costs of the project as they relate to the accomplishments of stated outcome.

FUNDING AVAILABILITY: 

South Eddy County:

Emerging Community Impact Grant request shall be for no more than $10,000.  Proposals submitted beyond the stated maximum amount will not be eligible for review.

North Eddy County: 

United Way of Eddy County will provide a mechanism for funding outside its existing Community Impact grant making in order to remain responsive to agency and community needs during the year.  

Emerging Community Impact Grant request shall be for no more than $500.  Proposals submitted beyond the stated maximum amount will not be eligible for review.  

AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT:  

You will be notified within 30 days of Receipt of Application.  In the event of an emergency, a more rapid response will be given.  

DEADLINE: 

Provided funding is available, grant is available year around.

COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT - NORTH & SOUTH EDDY

Available 4th Quarter of the year and are due on January 15th by 5pm. 

PURPOSE: 

The Community Impact Grant addresses several needs within the community.  Specifically in these areas:

1. EDUCATION: 

Description: Helping individuals of all ages in our community achieve their full potential. 

Priority Outcomes: 

• Children enter school developmentally on track in terms of literacy and social, emotional, and intellectual skills.
• Young people graduate from high school.
• Youth develop life and work skills to help them make a successful transition from high school to adulthood.

2. INCOME SUPPORT: 

Description: Helping families become financially stable and independent, while ensuring that basic needs are met.

Priority Outcomes:  

• Youth and adults develop financial literacy skills.
• Lower-income families move toward financial stability. 
• Community members have resources to overcome disasters and emotional or financial crises.

3. HEALTH: 

Description: Helping to improve all of our communities members health. 

Priority Outcomes: 

• Community members have access to basic and preventative health services.
• Youth and adults are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.
• Seniors and people with disabilities maximize their self-sufficiency.

4. BASIC NEEDS: 

Families have support for basic needs, including shelter and food.

These focus areas are open to support all ages in our community. 

Eligibility and Operating Requirements:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Operate or provide services within Eddy County.  Grants are specific to either North or South Eddy.  Applicants must only submit information for the specific part of the County they are requesting funding for. 
• Operate as a 501 (c)3 non-profit charitable health or health service organization, or organization that facilitates educational programs or as a governmental or quasi-governmental unit
• Operate under written Articles of Incorporation and By-laws or other written documents or statutes that define the applicant’s purposes, membership, management and operation.
• Operate on a non-discriminatory basis in employment, recruitment of volunteers and delivery of services.
• Demonstrate effective program performance and financial responsibility and accountability.
• Provide services that align with United Way’s identified needs in Education, Health and Income Support.

OPERATING REQUIREMENTS:

• Funds shall be used solely for the granted purpose.
• Funded activities shall commence during time frame specified in the grant application. 
• Grant funds not expended as directed by United Way and within the time frame allowed shall be returned to United Way.
• No grant will be given for any purpose that would jeopardize the tax-exempt status of United Way or the applicant organization.
• Grant recipients shall acknowledge United Way of Eddy County in all promotional materials, activities and programs funded with United Way monies.
• Grant recipients will be asked to sign a Memorandum of Agreement.
• Grant recipients shall submit a mid-year and year-end report indicating progress on stated outputs and outcomes as well as quarterly reports demonstrating financial accountability.
